COURSE OUTLINE

April 30th

Series 2: Class 1 -- Crazy Tangents -- Peggi is going to work with cut out pre-painted objects. She’ll paint them on Bristol Vellum Paper first and then cut them out. This makes it easy to move objects around until she feels she has some disturbing tangents. We’re always told to avoid these. She wants to do them on purpose. She will paint with acrylics and rearrange them for the desired effect.

May 7th

Series 2: Class 2 -- It’s Either Black or White, Nothing in Between -- Let simple value lead the way. Peggi is going to work with India Ink from a selection of photos and a still life. These will take us back to the Notan that is a useful design tool. She is going to pay attention to the proportions of the dark to the light. This is a wonderful segue into abstracting the subject for those of you more inclined to an abstract work. Also varying brushwork can take you towards abstract expressionism a la Willem DeKooning.

May 14th

Series 2: Class 3 -- Bigger than Life -- Peggi is going to take an object and paint it 3 or 4 times larger than its’ life-size. It may be a flower, a cup, scissors, or a portrait!  She’ll do one of these and use Acryla Gouache on a gessoed panel. The goal is to stay loose and go bigger than life! We will take the image to the borders of our surface to emphasize its largeness.

May 21st

Series 2: Class 4 -- Mixed Patterns -- Peggi will work with several sheets of pre-painted patterns. She wants to keep a big variety in them. She’ll try plaids, polka dots, free form, colored lines. She’s going to cut them up into abstract shapes or shapes of objects and reassemble pieces into, what she hopes, an interesting work. Think, “the shirt doesn’t match the pants and then add crazy socks.” She wants them to harmonize but also be very different.
