This is Peggi's favorite subject and favorite painting condition; figures in bright outdoor sunlight. She quickly assesses the direction of her light source, her darkest dark, her lightest light, her most intense color and her grayest color. She draws a line down the middle of her palette; a great tool for staying in control of value! Remember, the light is moving quickly. With these observations, she begins by massing her shadow area first with one tone, usually a neutral color.
