She wants to keep a big variety in them. She’ll try plaids, polka dots, free form, colored lines. She’s going to cut them up into abstract shapes or shapes of objects and reassemble pieces into, what she hopes, an interesting work. Think, “the shirt doesn’t match the pants and then add crazy socks.” She wants them to harmonize but also be very different. Assignment: Create a variety of patterns on separate sheets of paper. Do polka dots, a plaid, squares of color, etc. Create a variety of simple and busy patterns. Create decorative abstracts by assembling cut pieces. You can also paint one of your designs!
