High Value Key & Figures in Fashion: New Value Tool

Preview of Class #1

RUNTIME: 1 hour, 36 minutes

Peggi Kroll Roberts

Instructor, Class: Recorded Jul 15, 2019

New Value Tool, High Value Key—this is a great tool for the use of the value scale. This is especially useful if you have a subject where there is little color harmony or rather the colors “look ugly together.” It’s so effective because all pastels look great together! Peggi paints from a still life and a figure reference photo and works the value scale using 5 to 1. With all her shadows/darks indicated with a value 4 or 5, what happens to the range of her lights? They have to move up to a value 1, 2, or 3! It takes forcing, but it creates a lovely luminosity to the work. See some video stills here.
