Here at Picnic Beach, the northern beach above Heisler Park, Ray painted another beauty this morning. He discussed elements of composition; working with values (lights and darks) over color to create a pleasing design. And he added a bit more information on the mechanics of waves, creating balance with tension and on how he approaches painting white water to emphasize the effect of light from the sun--illustrating beautifully how white foam is darker than the spectral highlights in the water and how to mix colors to achieve that subtle difference.
